Monday, December 11 - The Real World
First thing I need to do is correct a misunderstanding I was operating under; the correct failure rate for the IBM laptops in this office is really 100%. As Bob pointed out, no decent sysadmin would care about anyone else's laptops. Mine have failed, that's sufficient to prove IBM laptops are junk. An excellent point, as always. (I'd print the email, but it contained a word that would get me in trouble with the CFPPLLDC - the Committee to Force People to Pretend Life is Like the Disney Channel (tm)). I'd humbly apologize, but that would be admitting to a mistake, and, as a sysadmin, I know there's only one time to admit to a mistake - when I've realized I hadn't set the cattle prod's amperage high enough.
Besides, I don't do "humble" very well.
Anyway. Onward and upward.
For whatever reason, I've gotten more spam today than I had gotten previously in several months. I don't know why this is so, but it's happening. So far, three separate messages offering me "great rates on home loans", two methods for getting rich (multiple copies of each), I don't know how many offers for big discounts on things I wouldn't want anyway... sigh. Ain't it great to be a part of the greatest technological communications system ever invented? I mean, c'mon, guys, you're cutting into coding time on the new monitoring scripts. All those wasted half-seconds hitting the delete key...
Ah well. I need to install a new server anyway. Preinstalled software, so it should be a snap to install, but still, I have to actually install it in the rack. I may possibly be back later, depends on my mood.
Oh yes, and a moment of good thoughts, please, @9:00 AM PST tomorrow; big job interview. I'll let you all know how it goes...
