November 22, 2008 Lillian. Nice name, that. (She was born December 1, 2006.)

  /dev/random
Well, after eleven years as an internet professional in various capacities, I found myself looking for work again. I discovered something I wasn't really happy with; the jobs I was being considered for, at the salaries I was willing to accept, were all management positions. The few positions that weren't management were all concerned about how long I'd stay with the position, since I was "so obviously overqualified".

The only problem with that is, I don't want to just become a manager. I like computers, I like getting my hands dirty (even if that means getting them dirty with Cheetos while hacking software together) and I especially like the challenge of solving technical problems. Apparently, to the average company currently hiring IT people, the fact that I can do that and I'm good at it means I'm overqualified to do it.

The solution is the second button from the left in the navigation bar above; I'm now an independent consultant. Beland Internet Technology Services is an internet technology consulting firm serving primarily small- and medium-sized businesses, specializing, as ever, in not specializing. I've amassed a large amount of experience in a broad range of areas during my career - why not put some of that to use for your business?

  Rocket Update
Yep, I'm building rockets again. Currently, I am a member of the National Association of Rocketry and the Blue Mountain Rocketeers. I am certified for High Power Level 2, and try to make it to every BMR launch. More on rockets and rocketry can be found in the Projects section.

  A Little About Me
I am an eleven-year veteran of Systems Administration, specializing in non-specializing. <grin> I work with Windows, Unix, and Macintosh systems according to the needs of my clients, not according to my own preferences and prejudices. Speaking of which, I do prefer Linux/Unix for most tasks, and that is what runs my personal systems and our home network. That doesn't mean I'm rabidly anti-Microsoft, I don't think Bill Gates is necessarily evil, and there is a place for Microsoft systems in many environments. For more information on my professional skills, you should look at the Resume section. Really.

I also run, with my partner, Factory 55, a low-price and high-quality hosting provider with a wide range of services and features.
