Closed Thingies vs. Open Thingies
I'm a little busy this weekend, so I've asked a guest columnist to step in. He'd like to talk about everyone's hot topic this week; Microsoft VP Craig Mundie's speech on Microsoft and Open Source. I'm not sure why it's everyone's favorite topic - are people honestly surprised? Anyway, I'll be back next week, hopefully with an update on Project Bertha. Until then, my guest columnist - Doorstop Beland. I never knew I had such a politically-minded cat...

i was sitting in dad's lap today while he played on his computer and i noticed everybody talking about mundie's speech the other day. i guess nobody liked it, and i can see why. he likes closed windows. i hate closed windows. it makes it harder to see the birds.
and i saw a respon.. a respondible... a reply by this linus torvalds guy where he said linucks was better because it was open. i like open things - windows, cat food cans, just about anything. plus linucks has a bird. i like birds. especially flighleg... flightlet... ones that can't fly.
oh. dad says this isn't that kind of open - that this kind is different. microsoft wants to own and control all of their software stuff, and linus wants everyone to share his linucks stuff without making them pay for it. i like that ooo sunbeam. sharing is good, except when maggie wants my spot. then its bad. but otherwise it's good.
there's just one problem with this. linux and everybody seems to be mad at microsoft because they want to control everybody's software, not just their own. the only problem is that they want to control it, too. they say everyone has to share - well how is that better than microsoft saying they should own everything? i don't mind if maggie wants to share her toys, but it's not fair fer her to insist that i have to share, too. i'll share if i want to. she can't make me.
i guess that's it. sharing is good except when they make you do it. then it's bad.
